Visiting Ethiopia Bill Gates Co-chair and founder of Bill and Mellinda Gates Foundation spoke about his foundation’s involvement in agriculture seeds improvement researches in Africa including Genetically Modified Foods (GMOs).
“Most of the seeds related to Africa are done in a public domain. There is no license fee, no royalties, no profits, related to them,” Mr. Gates said during media roundtable this afternoon.
“We work on public domain seeds. We are the biggest funders of public domain seeds in the world. The idea is to use science to help those farmers to avoid starvation, avoid nutrition problems. That simply is a matter of helping those farmers. There is no agenda about royalty-based seeds or license seeds for poor countries in Africa,” he said.
