6 Food Ingredients You Should Avoid!
Mira and Jayson Calton, authors of Rich Food, Poor Food, stop by UW Radio to discuss some ingredients we should watch out for in our food. The first is brominated vegetable oil (BVO), which gives you a brominated thyriod meaning iodine cant get into your thyriod. Over 100 countries have ban this ingredient. It can be found in Mountain Dew and other sodas to keep the color from separating. Food dyes are also dangerous and have been ban by other countries, including Blue 1, Blue 2, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, and Red 40. Kellogg’s puts food dyes in the foods they supply to the USA but not the UK.
Carrageenans can be found in faux dairy products but it is also used to remove ice from airplanes. It can cause ulcerations and malignancies in the GI tract. It is also found alongside MSG in many products. “Natural flavors” in ice cream could be puss from a beaver’s anal gland, ingredients found in rubber cement, even ingredients found in nail polish remover.
